3 Bedroom House Removal in Cliftonville, Margate
A full Gold packing service for a Victorian terrace in Cliftonville — one of Margate's most densely populated and access-challenging neighbourhoods. Move date: autumn, moving from Cliftonville to Canterbury.
Move Overview
The Property: Cliftonville, Margate
The property was a mid-terrace Victorian house in Cliftonville, Margate — one of the most densely populated and historically significant neighbourhoods in Thanet. Cliftonville has a high concentration of Victorian and Edwardian terraced properties, many of which have been converted into flats over the decades, with the remaining full houses presenting specific access challenges.
This particular house had three floors, a steep internal staircase, no off-road parking, and sat on a permit-controlled road with limited stopping space for large vehicles. The owners had lived there for 14 years and had accumulated the typical contents of a fully furnished family home — three bedrooms of furniture, a full kitchen, a garage, and items in the loft.
The destination was a detached property in Canterbury with good access and a driveway — which meant the offloading phase would be straightforward, but the loading in Cliftonville required careful logistical planning.
Challenges We Planned For
Cliftonville is one of Thanet's most permit-heavy areas. We arranged a temporary parking suspension through Thanet District Council to secure loading space directly outside the property, avoiding any time wasted searching for legal stopping points.
Moving large furniture down three flights of tight Victorian stairs requires planning. We pre-assessed the staircase on the packing day and identified that two double wardrobes would need to be dismantled in situ — which we accounted for in the job schedule.
Victorian terraces in Cliftonville often have narrow hallways and tight internal door frames. We used furniture sliders, custom blanket wrapping, and a systematic loading sequence to move large items through the property without damage.
A 14-year household generates significant volume. We estimated the load at approximately 900 cubic feet across three floors plus garage and loft — requiring two Luton vans. Our Gold service included all packing materials: double-walled boxes, bubble wrap, wardrobe boxes, mattress covers, and furniture blankets.
How the Move Was Handled
Day 1 — Packing Day
Our two-man packing crew arrived at 8:30am the day before moving day. By noon we had packed all three bedrooms — beds dismantled, wardrobes packed, clothes loaded into wardrobe boxes, and all fragile items wrapped in tissue and bubble wrap. By 5pm the kitchen, living room, and dining room were fully packed and labelled. The garage and loft contents were packed into heavy-duty double-walled boxes and stacked in the hallway ready for early loading the following morning.
Day 2 — Moving Day
Our three-man crew arrived at 7:00am with both vans. We began loading from the top floor down, maximising vehicle space and ensuring the heaviest and most awkward items — two double wardrobes, a king-size bed, and a solid oak dining table — were dismantled and loaded first. By 10:15am both vans were loaded and ready to leave for Canterbury.
The drive from Cliftonville, Margate to Canterbury took approximately 45 minutes. We arrived at the destination at 11:15am and began offloading into the new property. With a clear driveway and wide hallways, offloading proceeded quickly. Furniture was placed in the rooms as directed, wardrobes were reassembled, beds were rebuilt, and all boxes were placed in the correct rooms. The family had their home substantially reassembled by 3:00pm.
Outcome
A successful two-day Gold service move — packing day plus moving day — completed exactly as planned with no damage to property or items. The family was fully settled in their Canterbury home the same evening.
