The Business: Broadstairs Town Centre

The client was a professional services firm with a team of 10 people, operating from first-floor offices in Broadstairs town centre. After expanding their team, they had outgrown their existing space and secured new, larger premises in the St Peters area — approximately 1.5 miles from their existing office.

The priority for the business was clear: complete the move over the weekend so that the team could start work in the new office on Monday morning with zero disruption to their clients. No lost working days, no IT downtime, no missing files.

The office contents included 10 desks and chairs, 10 computer workstations, a server rack, 3 large filing cabinets, a photocopier, a kitchenette, multiple archive boxes, and assorted office furniture. It was a moderately complex commercial move — not the largest we've handled, but one that required careful planning around IT equipment and business continuity.

Key Challenges

1
IT equipment and server handling

The server rack required careful handling — powered down by the client's IT provider on Friday evening, wrapped in anti-static protection, and transported in an upright position. We confirmed the handling requirements with the client in advance and ensured the team was briefed.

2
First-floor access in the town centre

The existing office was on the first floor of a commercial building in the town centre with a narrow shared staircase. Larger items — filing cabinets, photocopier, and tall storage units — required either disassembly or careful manoeuvring on the stairs. We assessed the access prior to moving day.

3
Weekend parking in Broadstairs town centre

Summer weekends in Broadstairs bring tourist traffic and restricted parking near the town centre. We arrived early Saturday morning (7:30am) before the town was busy and had both vans loaded before the roads became congested.

4
IT setup at the new location

While full IT setup was managed by the client's IT team, our job was to position all computer equipment precisely where the IT team would be working that evening. We followed a detailed floor plan provided by the office manager to ensure every desk and workstation was placed correctly.

How the Move Was Executed

Saturday — Loading Day

We arrived at 7:30am Saturday. The server rack had been powered down and prepared by the IT team the previous evening. We began with the server rack, wrapping it carefully and securing it in the van first — protected from other items during transit. We then worked systematically through the office: filing cabinets (emptied and sealed), desks (partially disassembled), IT equipment (wrapped in transit blankets), and finally the archive boxes and kitchenette.

By 11am, both vans were loaded and we made the short drive to the new premises in St Peters. Following the office manager's floor plan, we positioned each desk, workstation, and cabinet in its designated location. The server rack was placed in the new server room as directed. By 2pm the new office was fully furnished and the IT team began their cable management and setup work.

Sunday — Final Items and Handover

We returned Sunday morning to collect the remaining items — a few pieces of office furniture that had been left for the IT team to clear around on Saturday. Final items were delivered to the new office and the old premises left fully cleared. The client's office manager completed a final walkthrough of both premises confirming everything was in order.

Outcome

The business opened in their new Broadstairs office on Monday morning with no disruption to their operations. The entire team was at their desks and fully operational as normal. Zero IT downtime, zero damage to equipment, and the move was completed within the agreed weekend window.
